I’m so excited to be a part of the the Professionals United for Parkland (PU4P). I had the pleasure of doing an interview (see below) about our work and what we’ve been up to and I haven’t written about it personally yet and, as I said in the interview, it is very personal to me.I work and live in Parkland and my children go to public school in Parkland. What does this mean for my work with PU4P? It doesn’t really but my whole life changed February 14, 2018 and there is no going backwards before that day. We are talking about a new normal now and I am hoping that we get there soon.

What does this new normal look like?

Or maybe I should be asking, what would I like it to look like?

  1. Everyone that needs/wants counseling realizes it’s out there and receives it.
  2. We continue to work as a community to make ourselves and our kids safe.
  3. We all try to understand each other’s points without “harshing”.
  4. We try to work together to make real change occur.

I’ll only put 4 realistic goals out there but of course there are so many more. With this wonderful group of ours we can help those that need the help.

How do you know if you need help?

As I told someone yesterday, if you’re reaching out for help for yourself or your children, then there’s a need.  There are people that feel as if they don’t need help.  They’re angry, hurt and even fearful. These are reasons to seek out help and I really suggest you do so.

I’m so proud to be a board member of this wonderful group.  Each board member, volunteer and therapist out there that is doing the work is what’s going to get us to our new normal.  Let’s find out together what that is and work on a plan to get there with peace and thoughtfulness.
