Staying Calm

I have always imagined myself as a calm person and I strive to live that way. I have had two incidents lately that have questioned how I can stay calm when other people are so upset? I am struggling with this because I do believe that staying calm, listening to my inner voice and going slower will help me in the long run.
Here are some ways that I am going to practice to stay calm
Arrive early: Yes, you can do it. I was told that after having children I would not be able to continue to do this. I can and do and feel it helps me stay calm to know that I will get places on time and do believe that it has helped my children as well.
Take the road less traveled: As I advance on in my years, I’m learning that taking the slower route will get me to my destination just as quick as the faster route. Nothing is that important to rush to. Slow down and take the slower route.
Eat right, exercise and get enough sleep: Just going to lump sum all of these together because they all go together. If you do one and not the other then you’re not getting your needs met. Keep a daily log of how much you eat, get up and walk around at least 1x an hour and go to bed at a reasonable hour. I need 7 hours of sleep to feel rested. Everyone is different on this one so don’t go by what I’m doing. You know your body, listen to it and refuel it!
Get rid of toxic people: As with the roads, if someone is bringing you negative energy, it is time to say goodbye. If you cannot say goodbye, then think about just taking a break from that person in order to reset and get rid of the negativity.
Find a hobby: I cannot express how important it is to have a hobby and something that you can enjoy. Whether it is shopping, movies, reading, puzzles, sewing, find it and enjoy it and do not feel guilty about doing it!
I think this is a good start to finding a way to stay calmer in any situation. If you are calm, the annoying people will not affect you in a way that they are now. You will be happier, healthier and enjoy life more. And of course, if you need help getting there, counseling at Face to Face Therapy is always an option for you.
Enjoy and let’s talk about ways to stay calm!
